The man reportedly also claimed a death warrant had been issued and a bullet kept ready for the NHRC chief.

“(Prof Rahman) will be killed anywhere, anytime as they have prepared a squad to kill him,” the release quoted the unidentified caller as saying.

The man also said he will not be able to protect himself.

The statement further said the unnamed caller had been calling from the same number (01966533896) for past several days to issue the threat.

Prof Rahman in the statement said these threats have been given over his unwavering stance demanding trials of the suspected war criminals. “I’m not feeling safe.”

He urged the administration to take emergency measures to catch the caller and bring him to justice.

His personal aide Ashik told Prof Rahman was currently at Gaibandha to attend his father’s death anniversary.

“A general diary will be filed in this regard after he returns to Dhaka.”
