The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) gunned down a Bangladeshi farmer at Shingnagar frontier in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj on Wednesday.
The victim is Sanaul Islam, 22, son of Abdur Rashid of Chandpur village, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent.
Lt Col Manjurul Alam, commanding officer of 9 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion, said BSF troops of Daulatpur camp opened fire on Sanaul around 2:15pm while he was working at his paddy field.
Sanaul died on the spot, Manjurul said.
BGB members sent a letter to BSF authorities protesting the incident, the BGB officer said.
Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes in Delhi on Wednesday touched upon killing of Bangladesh nationals by Indian border security force (BSF) and said the border killing has tumbled over years, but it needs to come to zero level.
The India side, he said, has made a new proposal to involve local government bodies of both countries to manage borders.
