Padma Bridge construction with Bangladesh’s own fund is logically possible but it will not be viable, Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Shiro Sadoshima said on Sunday.
“… building Padma Bridge with own fund is logically possible… but it won’t be viable,” he said replying to a question at DCAB Talks, organised by Diplomatic Correspondents Association Bangladesh (DACB) at the National Press Club.
The Japanese envoy, however, said while implementing such an important bridge it should be considered whether the bridge would be built for merely construction or it would be constructed to provide services to the people of the country.
Replying to another question over funding Padma Bridge through an alternative arrangement, Sadoshima said the Japanese government is still in its position to provide fund for the project as per the commitment. “Our position, commitment is still there. We’re now discussing the issue back in Tokyo …We’re also looking at the matter very closely.”
About corruption in the Padma Bridge project, Sadoshima said
Bangladesh government has been working sincerely, thinking a lot and compiling sets of policies to spell out the allegation of corruption in the project.
DCAB President Rejaul Karim Lotus and general secretary Bashir Ahmed also spoke at the function.
